Muzyrja is the name of my Ukrainian maternal great-grandmother, who is the only woman in our family who has not changed her surname after marriage. As the wife of an expropriated kulak with three small children, she brought all of her children alive through the artificially created famine in Ukraine in 1932-33. She survived the Second War. So I owe my existence to her and would like to wear her last name with a lot of pride today.
